HBO’s eagerly awaited Harry Potter series continues to take shape, as it announces nine significant new casting choices across Hogwarts and the Muggle realm, expanding on the previously revealed leads and key professors. Joining the main trio—Dominic McLaughlin (Harry), Arabella Stanton (Hermione), and Alastair Stout (Ron)—are several beloved characters now in the hands of acclaimed actors. Katherine Parkinson (known for The IT Crowd and Defending the Guilty) has been cast as the warm-hearted Molly Weasley, bringing both humor and depth to the beloved mother figure.
The Malfoy family is also established: rising actor Lox Pratt will embody Draco Malfoy, while multi-talented Johnny Flynn (Ripley, Lovesick) plays his father, the elegant yet menacing Lucius. Representation of Harry’s Muggle relatives gets a facelift with Bel Powley (The Morning Show, A Small Light) as Petunia Dursley, and Daniel Rigby (BAFTA winner for Eric) taking on Vernon Dursley. Their casting emphasizes a vibrant, faithful portrayal—HBO aims to depict them as younger than their film counterparts, aligning more closely with the books.
In the wizarding world’s political sphere, two key figures will also make their debut: Bertie Carvel, known for Doctor Foster and Dalgliesh, is set to portray Cornelius Fudge, the flustered Minister for Magic with a growing ambivalence toward Dumbledore. The ensemble grows richer with the inclusion of young Hogwarts students: Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, and Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown. These additions deepen the portrayal of Harry’s classmates and hint at richer interpersonal arcs. These nine newcomers bolster an already star-studded cast that includes John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Nick Frost as Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu as Snape.
Production, led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod, aims for faithful, long-form storytelling across seven seasons, with each novel receiving its own season. Filming is expected to begin in summer 2025 at Leavesden Studios, as HBO readies a debut in 2026–2027. This expansion of the cast underscores HBO’s commitment: an inclusive, novel-accurate, and richly detailed adaptation. With these additions in place, fans can eagerly anticipate deeper immersion into Hogwarts life, weaving in family dynamics on both sides of the magical divide.
