What started as a peaceful demonstration in downtown Boulder took a terrifying turn on Sunday, June 1, when a man unleashed a violent attack on participants using firebombs and a makeshift flamethrower. This shocking Boulder terror attack occurred during a rally organized by “Run for Their Lives,” a group advocating for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza. The chaos erupted at the busy Pearl Street Mall, leaving eight people injured, including an 88-year-old Holocaust survivor. Authorities have labeled the incident both a hate crime and a domestic terror attack.
The suspect, 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman, was quickly subdued and arrested at the scene. Eyewitnesses reported that Soliman shouted “Free Palestine” while launching his attack with incendiary devices. Among the injured, several were elderly, and at least one person remains in critical condition. Law enforcement confirmed that Soliman acted alone and had no known connections to organized terror groups. The FBI is now leading the investigation and has officially classified the Boulder terror attack as a targeted act of terrorism.
Local and national leaders were quick to condemn the assault. Colorado Governor Jared Polis called it a “heinous act of terror” and promised full support for the victims and their families. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also spoke out against the attack, labeling it antisemitic and urging U.S. authorities to protect Jewish communities. This incident has raised significant concerns about the rise of antisemitism and the growing tensions surrounding demonstrations related to international conflicts.
In light of the Boulder terror attack, all future events organized by “Run for Their Lives” have been put on hold. The community is coming together to support the victims, with vigils and initiatives popping up across Boulder. As investigations continue, this act of violence has sparked a renewed debate about safety and tolerance in our society.
