A federal judge dismissed Justin Baldoni’s $400 million lawsuit against Blake Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and The New York Times, marking a significant moment in a high-profile Hollywood legal battle. Baldoni, who directed and starred alongside Lively in "It Ends With Us," alleged that Lively and Reynolds tried to ruin his reputation through accusations of sexual harassment and retaliation during the film’s production. The lawsuit also included claims of civil extortion and defamation, but Judge Lewis J. Liman found that Lively’s statements, made as part of a legal complaint, were protected by legal privilege and did not constitute defamation.
Following the dismissal, Blake Lively responded publicly, sharing her reaction on Instagram. She wrote, “Like so many others, I’ve felt the pain of a retaliatory lawsuit, including the manufactured shame that tries to break us,” referencing the emotional toll such legal actions can have. Lively emphasized that while she had the resources to defend herself, many women do not, and she expressed gratitude for the support she received throughout the ordeal. Her statement resonated with advocacy for women’s rights, highlighting the broader issue of retaliatory lawsuits against those who speak up about workplace harassment.
Lively’s message also included a call to action, encouraging women to continue protecting their safety, integrity, and dignity. She shared a list of organizations that provide support for women facing similar challenges, underscoring her commitment to standing up for others beyond her own legal victory. Lively stated she was “more resolved than ever” to defend every woman’s right to have a voice, reinforcing her dedication to advocacy in the wake of the lawsuit’s dismissal.
Attorneys for Lively described the outcome as a “total victory and complete vindication,” asserting that the court saw through what they called a “sham” lawsuit. The legal battle between Lively and Baldoni is not entirely over, as Lively’s own lawsuit against Baldoni remains ongoing, with a trial scheduled for next year.
