Karmelo Sincere Anthony, now 18, has been indicted by a Collin County grand jury on a first-degree murder charge in the stabbing death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas. The incident occurred on April 2, 2025, at Kuykendall Stadium during a Frisco ISD event, shocking the local community and drawing widespread attention. Both Anthony and Metcalf were 17 at the time, and under Texas law, 17-year-olds are considered adults in the criminal justice system.

According to police and witness reports, the altercation began over seating arrangements in the stadium bleachers. Anthony reportedly sat under a tent belonging to Metcalf’s team, prompting Metcalf to ask him to move. The exchange escalated, with Anthony allegedly responding, “Touch me and see what happens.” When Metcalf touched Anthony, the confrontation intensified, leading to Anthony stabbing Metcalf in the chest. Metcalf died at the scene in the arms of his twin brother, despite emergency responders’ efforts.

After his arrest, Anthony told police he was acting in self-defense, claiming Metcalf had physically grabbed him first. Anthony’s attorney, Mike Howard, has stated that the defense looks forward to presenting their case in court, arguing that reasonable doubt remains regarding whether Anthony acted in self-defense. Anthony was initially held on a $1 million bond, which was later reduced to $250,000, and he has been under house arrest with a leg monitor since April 14.

If convicted of first-degree murder, Anthony faces a sentence ranging from five years to life in prison. District Attorney Greg Willis emphasized the impact of the incident on the community and assured that the prosecution would pursue justice fully and fairly as the case moves into the trial phase.
