Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the grand International Yoga Day event in Visakhapatnam (Vizag) on June 21, 2025, where over five lakh participants are expected to gather along a 26-kilometre stretch from RK Beach to Bhogapuram. The event, themed "Yoga for One Earth, One Health," aims to set multiple records, including the largest group performing Surya Namaskars, with 25,000 tribal students participating for 108 minutes. The Andhra Pradesh government has organized simultaneous yoga activities at over 1.3 lakh locations across the state, with special arrangements for 30,000 people in Vizag alone. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has personally overseen preparations and called for widespread public participation to make the event a historic success.
In anticipation of the Prime Minister’s visit and the massive turnout, security in Vizag has been significantly heightened. More than 10,000 police personnel, including NSG commandos and armed forces, are being deployed, and a high-tech police control room has been established to coordinate efforts. Over 1,200 CCTV cameras and drones will monitor the main event corridor and surrounding areas, ensuring real-time surveillance and crowd management. Strict security protocols will be enforced, with bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs screening the entire Beach Road stretch, which has been declared a temporary red zone for the duration of the event.
To facilitate the smooth movement of participants and dignitaries, comprehensive traffic restrictions have been imposed. Beach Road from NTR Circle to Park Hotel Junction is closed to all vehicular traffic from June 17 to June 21, and the stretch from Park Hotel Junction to Bheemili Beach is closed from June 19 to June 21 for stage construction and event preparations. Buses transporting attendees from various districts will have designated routes and parking, with participants expected to walk short distances to their yoga compartments. The city has also rolled out 50 electric buses to major pickup and drop-off points to reduce congestion and promote eco-friendly transport.
Drone operations are strictly prohibited in key areas, including a 5-kilometre radius around INS Dega, INS Chola Naval Base, RK Beach, and the route from INS Chola to Andhra University Grounds and AU Helipad. This ban is in effect from noon on June 20 until 2 pm on June 21, with only the Jodugulapalem to Bheemli stretch exempted. The police have warned of legal action against unauthorized drone use, citing security and crowd management concerns. Residents and participants are urged to cooperate with authorities, use public transport, and adhere to the guidelines for a safe and organized celebration.
