During this violent protest, demonstrators set fire to the former PM's house in the Dallu area, and Ravi Laxmi suffered major injuries to her left hand and lung infections caused by smoke inhalation. Initially treated in Nepal Army Hospital ICU, she was later transferred to Bir Hospital in Kirtipur, and based on doctors' advice, was moved to a hospital in Delhi via air ambulance for further specialized care.
The Gen-Z movement in Nepal started as a protest against social media restrictions and political corruption but escalated into widespread violence. Many citizens lost their lives, and several leaders' houses were attacked. Particularly, the house of ,Jhalanath Khanal, was vandalized, and his wife was brutally assaulted. The protesters gutted the house by setting it on fire, causing life-threatening injuries to Ravi Laxmi. After initially receiving emergency treatment at army and burn hospitals in Nepal, her condition required more advanced medical interventions.
There were widespread rumors and false reports in Indian media and social media platforms claiming that Ravi Laxmi had died in the fire. However, family members and Nepali officials confirmed that she is still alive, although in critical condition, and undergoing treatment. Several senior Nepali leaders and their families have suffered in this violent unrest. Though the former PM was rescued with the help of the army, his wife endured serious harm amidst the chaos.
Due to the severity of her injuries, doctors had to amputate her left hand completely, and she is also battling a prolonged lung infection. Her ongoing treatment in India aims to improve her health and prevent further complications. This tragedy has reignited discussions in Nepal on human rights and political violence, exposing how innocent individuals are suffering under the pretext of protest.
