Brentford Football Club has officially announced that veteran defender Ben Mee will leave the club upon the expiration of his contract on June 30, 2025. Mee, who joined the Bees on a free transfer in July 2022 following an 11-year tenure at Burnley, has made 67 appearances and scored five goals during his time in West London.
In a heartfelt statement ahead of Brentford's final home game of the season against Fulham, Mee expressed his gratitude: "Sunday will be my last game at the Gtech. I'd like to thank the Bees fans for the amazing support you've given me during these last three years—it's really meant a lot. This is a unique club full of fantastic people, and I'm really proud and grateful to have had the pleasure to play here. I still have a lot more to give on the pitch, and I'll certainly be looking to do that somewhere next season and beyond. For now, let's hope”.
Brentford head coach Thomas Frank praised Mee's contributions, stating "Ben has been fantastic for us. He has not had as many minutes in the two seasons since then, but he has always performed when called and been invaluable off the pitch. He has helped us build a strong culture and shared his knowledge with the younger players about how to be a top defender. Ben is a top pro —he will be missed. We wish".
Mee's debut season with Brentford was marked by a memorable home debut goal in a 4–0 victory over Manchester United, contributing to the club's highest-ever Premier League finish. He was subsequently named Brentford Supporters' Player of the Year for the 2022–23 season. Despite limited playing time in the current campaign, with only two Premier League starts, Mee's leadership and experience have been invaluable to the squad. As he looks ahead to the next chapter in his career, Brentford fans will undoubtedly remember his significant impact both on and off the pitch.
